Abstract:
The City of Ottawa Thematic Atlas are vector files that cover the City of Ottawa. Individual themes include roads, bike paths, city facilities, city parkland, city wards, greenbelt, hospitals, neighbourhoods, powerlines, public libraries, railways, rivers, schools, transitway, tourist sites and villages.
Purpose:
The City of Ottawa has provided a number of geo-spatial datasets to the University in support of academic research and teaching. Themes available include transportation, environment, administrative boundaries, social services, land use, etc.

All Roads Includes line topology of: " federal (maintained by the federal government), " provincial (maintained by the provincial government), " regional (maintained by the City), and " local (maintained by the City) roads within the City of Ottawa. These data are current to June 2003.

Bike Paths Includes line topology of all existing and planned cycling routes. Route categories include off-road, signed on-road and unsigned on-road. Last update: 1997

City Facilities Includes City headquarters, city-operated daycare centers, social services district offices, employment centers, administrative buildings, water filtration plants, environmental and transportation depots, seniors' homes, health clinics and landfill sites, recreation facilities, all administered by the City of Ottawa. Last update: 2003 City Parkland Includes the approximate polygon boundaries for parkland within the City of Ottawa. Last update: 2003

City Wards The the City of Ottawa is divided into 21 wards each of which is represented in City Council by a directly-elected Councillor. The wards are designed to reflect various criteria including geographic features and communities of interest. They are structured to have a reasonably comparable population. Last update: 2001 Federal Roads Includes line topology of federal (maintained by the federal government) within the Region of Ottawa-Carleton. These data are current to June 2002.

Greenbelt The Greenbelt lands form a semi-circular belt of approximately 17,600 hectares on the edge of Ottawa-Carleton's urban area. These lands were set aside in 1958 to prevent urban sprawl and to provide future parks and public open spaces. Presently, some of the land is leased, some is in public use, some is used for research and development activities, and large tracts have been set aside for the conservation of the water table and the preservation of animal and plant life. The Greenbelt is owned and managed by the National Capital Commission, a Crown Agency of the Canadian government.

Neighbourhoods A neighbourhood is an aggregate of census tracts. There are 50 neighbourhoods in the CIty of Ottawa area, each identified by the common name of the community it contains (i.e. Barrhaven, Center Town, Mer Bleue). Last update: 2002

Powerlines Includes line topology of the major powerlines which exist within the City's boundaries.

Provincial Roads Includes line topology of provincial (maintained by the provincial government) roads within the City of Ottawa. These data are current to June 2002.

Public Libraries Includes the 33 public libraries within the City of Ottawa. Last update: 2003

Railways Includes line topology of the major railways which exist within the Region's boundaries.

Regional Roads Includes line topology of regional (maintained by regional government) roads within the City of Ottawa. These data are current to June 2002.

Rivers Includes all waterways (rivers, creeks, lakes and canals) within Ottawa, excluding drainage ditches and intermittent creeks.

Schools Includes point locations for all schools operated by the 4 Boards and Private Schools (as Listed in Phone book), within the the City of Ottawa. Last update: Fall Term 2002

Transitway The Transitway is the single largest transportation project in the City's history. Built by the City of Ottawa, and operated by OC Transpo, the Transitway provides rapid transit service to over 200,000 Ottawa residents per day on a roadway system dedicated exclusively to buses. Tourist Sites Includes point data of a selection of some of the major tourist sites within the City of Ottawa. Last update: 2000

Villages Includes point data of the location of villages within the City of Ottawa. Last update: 2001
