System
Requirements
To
run the Beyond 20/20 Publication Browser or Professional Browser, you must have
the following minimum hardware and software:
- Windows 98, Me, NT,
2000, or XP.
Note: This version of the Browser uses the Windows Installer that ships
with Windows 2000. On older operating systems, setup may fail with a message
that the installer cannot be found. In that case you can download the installer
from Microsoft's web site:
- Internet Explorer 4.01
or later.
Note: If you want
to use the optional HTML editor for creating summaries, Internet Explorer
5.0 or later is required.
- A Pentium-class processor.
- At least 16 MB of available
RAM after all normal system resources are loaded.
- 20 MB available disk
space for the software. Data files will need more space, depending on their
size.
Installing
Note: If you downloaded
the Browser from Beyond 20/20's website, first double-click it to extract the
compressed files. You will need a password.
- Do one of the following:
- Using Windows Explorer,
locate setup.exe on your Beyond 20/20 installation CD-ROM or in your installation
folder and double-click it.
- In Control Panel,
double-click Add/Remove Programs and then click Install.
You will be prompted to insert your Beyond 20/20 CD-ROM.
If there is a previous version of the Browser on your computer, you will
be asked if you want to upgrade. Click Yes to continue. Upgrading
overwrites the old version.
- Select a language
and then read and accept the licence agreement. If you do not accept the agreement
you will not be able to proceed with the installation. Then click Next.
- Choose a setup type,
either Complete or Custom, and then click Next.
- If you want to be
able to change any variables, such as the install location, choose Custom.
- If you chose
a custom setup:
- To change the installed
set of program features, click one of the program icons.
- To change the install
location, click Change and choose a new location. The default location
is C:\Program Files\Beyond 2020\Publication Browser (or
Professional Browser).
- Click Next, and
then click Install.
Click Cancel if you want to halt the installation and roll your computer
back to the state it was in before you started.
A Beyond 2020 program
group is created in your computer's start menu and a Browser icon is placed
inside it.
Known Issues
- Different colors than
earlier versions. Version 7 uses a new color pallette for the user interface.
If you prefer to use your old colors you can customize the interface, as follows:
- To
change the background colors, open the Window menu and choose Preferences.
Make your selections and click OK. Your settings will be saved as the
default.
- To
change map colors, right-click in a map view and choose Map Options. Make
your selections and click on Save As Default.
- To
change chart colors, double-click on a color area and make your selection.
Then right-click in the chart view and choose Chart Options. (Note:
Chart colors cannot be saved.)
- Windows 95, 98, ME.
Exception 10H when printing certain files on certain printers. This
happens very rarely, and it is a known Microsoft issue.
- Solution: Use a different
printer, or else install a different printer driver. For more information,
search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Exception 10H.
- Summary Editor installs
MS Outlook. When you first run the Summary Editor in Beyond 20/20 Visual
Builder or Professional Browser, Windows Installer attempts to install MS
Outlook 2000. This
occurs when MS Office 2000 is installed and MS Outlook is configured to install
"at first use." It
is caused by the fact that the Summary Editor and MS Outlook share a common
system control.
- Solution: Allow the
MS Outlook installer to run. It will only do this the first time you use
the Summary Editor and it only installs a few Outlook components, not
the entire application.
