Beyond 20/20 tables, Statistics Canada

Summary: This reference tool contains some 110 electronic data tables illustrating current and historical data from a number of Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics, Statistics Canada surveys. The database provides data on crime, police administration, adult and youth court activity, the correctional population and transition homes, as well as various issues such as criminal victimization and family violence. 

Software: The following data opens in Beyond 20/20 format, minimum version 6.2. To view this data, you must download and install the B2020 browser software.

Abstract: The objective of this survey is to develop and maintain a national adult criminal court database of statistical information on appearances, charges, and cases in adult criminal courts.

Abstract: The purpose of this survey is to provide important indicators as to the nature and case characteristics of correctional services and are of use to justice agencies, the media and the public.

Corrections Key Indicator Report for Adults and Young Offenders (KIR)

Abstract: The purpose of this survey is particularly important for monitoring trends in correctional populations. These data assist policy makers and corrections managers in formulating decisions based upon historical comparisons. Key indicator data also give some indication of current trends in the utilization of correctional services and provide a basis for calculating incarceration rates (number of persons incarcerated as a proportion of the Canadian population).

Abstract: This survey collects detailed data on homicide in Canada. The survey has collected police-reported data on the characteristics of all murder incidents, victims and accused persons since 1961 and all homicides (including murder, manslaughter and infanticide) since 1974.

Abstract: The objective of this survey is to collect baseline information on police personnel and expenditures to enable detection of historical trends as well as permit comparisons at the provincial/territorial and municipal levels.

Abstract: The Uniform Crime Reporting Survey was designed to measure the incidence of crime in Canadian society and its characteristics. The information is used by federal and provincial policy makers as well as public and private researchers.

Transition Home Survey Back to top

Abstract: The objective of the Transition Home Survey (THS) is to collect data on residential services for abused women and their children during the previous 12 months, as well as to provide a one-day snapshot of the clientele being served on a specific date. The THS is a census of all residential agencies providing services to battered women and their children across Canada.

Abstract: The objective of this survey is to collect information on victim service agencies that provided services directly to primary or secondary victims of crime during the 12-month reference period, as well as to provide a one-day snapshot of clientele being served on a specific date. Information on activities by criminal injuries compensation/financial benefit programs during the 12-month reference period is also collected.
